Lemma.
The insult addresses an allegedly inexperienced young male. The patriot applies it to Julie because he reads her male costume as the appearance of a youth. “Beardless brat” captures the contempt and gendered assumption, rather than mechanically translating the compound as a white beak. The insult precedes physical threat and belongs to the café speaker, not the narrator’s judgment of Julie.
