Meaning

Kydoimos is battle-noise or warlike tumult, personified in the list at B1282. “Battle-Din” keeps the sound and disorder of combat audible. It is a different name from Quarrel, Wrath, or the cosmic Strife, even though their semantic fields overlap.

Use in the book

The name follows Ares in the declaration that these powers were not gods among the community over which Cypris was queen. Their adjacency makes a compact picture of war and its tumult. The subsequent contrast between fragrant worship and blood-soaked altars gives the absent power an ethical setting without assigning it an independent speech or action.

Kydoimos is not part of the B122/123 catalogue, and the two lists should not be collapsed merely because both use personification. In B1282 the form of the assertion is negative: Battle-Din is excluded from a particular community's order. The fragment provides no genealogy, cult practice, or allocation of one of the roots to the figure.
