Bibliography and Source Credits
Governing Latin Witness: Geneva, 1653
Anonymous [attributed to Jean d’Espagnet]. Enchiridion physicae restitutae. Geneva: Jean-Antoine and Samuel de Tournes, 1653. ETH-Bibliothek Zürich, Rar 4790. Digitised by e-rara. Persistent identifier: doi:10.3931/e-rara-21407: https://doi.org/10.3931/e-rara-21407. Catalogue and scan access: https://www.e-rara.ch/zut/content/titleinfo/6626647.
The catalogue marks the digitized work with a Public Domain Mark. The historical text is a public-domain source; the new translation and Diotimos editorial writing are separate contributions. The source institution and identifier are credited here in accordance with normal scholarly practice. The library’s modern download notice is not part of the historical text.
English Transmission: London, 1651
Anonymous [catalogued under Jean d’Espagnet]. Enchyridion physicae restitutae; or, The Summary of Physicks Recovered. London: printed by W. Bentley and sold by W. Sheares and R. Tutchein, 1651. Wellcome Collection catalogue, ESTC R36574; Wing (CD-ROM, 1996), E3276A. Wellcome bibliographical record: https://wellcomecollection.org/works/zz8fkgky.
This record documents an English printing earlier than the selected 1653 Latin witness and the established English title. It is cited for transmission, not treated as the source of the present wording or as a full collation proving every variant. No personal translator attribution is inferred from the anonymous title alone.
The Companion Arcanum
Arcanum hermeticae philosophiae opus is named as a second treatise on the combined historical title. The e-rara collection provides the separately digitized companion under its own record. Companion catalogue record: https://www.e-rara.ch/zut/content/titleinfo/6640445. The present edition’s scope is the complete Enchiridion, rather than a composite of two independent canon sequences.
Scriptural and Classical References
Scriptural and classical citations are retained where they occur in the historical text and identified in annotations where secure. The English translates the words printed in the governing witness. A marginal reference and a modern identification remain distinct, especially when a historical quotation is abbreviated, adapted or uncertain.
Editorial Credits
Prepared for Diotimos Editions in 2026. The edition combines a readable Latin transcription, a fresh English translation, source-based annotations and newly composed study features. The historical witness governs the sequence and wording; modern explanations and reflective applications remain editorial material. Typography and page architecture follow the established Diotimos edition design.
