The Sophic Hydrolith: Contextual Lexicon

p. 280

The phrase children of wisdom also defines an intended readership able to consider difficult signs without treating secrecy as a licence for arbitrary invention. Throughout the volume, true wisdom is distinguished from learned titles, empty boasting and sophistical appearances. Yet the texts still direct readers towards books, reasoning and observation. Wisdom does not abolish those means; it orders their use and gives the reader grounds for asking whether a claimed mastery has understood Nature or only repeated its vocabulary.
