You must also form and carefully weigh this resolve: on your life—indeed, on pain of losing your salvation and blessedness—you will not reveal this secret to anyone unworthy or godless, still less communicate it to them or allow them to enjoy its benefits. In sum, you will not misuse it, but apply it solely to God’s honour, as already said, and in no way to your own glory. Remember also that if you fail to do this and rashly transgress, you will not escape God’s punishment. It would have been a thousand times better for you never to have known or learned anything of it.

Historical Text and Translation

Anonymous, Wasserstein der Weysen. Frankfurt: Lucas Jennis, 1619. The governing e-rara copy belongs to the Stiftung der Werke von C. G. Jung, Zürich (DOI 10.3931/e-rara-8968). The work is traditionally attributed to Johann Siebmacher; this remains an attribution, not a name printed in the anonymous witness.
