In the first I shall show the beginning and entrance to this art: how a person may fit and prepare themselves for it. In the second I shall follow the philosophers’ descriptions and indications to show the character of the matter of this art and how to recognise it; I shall also show how the manner and governance of its entire preparation should be undertaken. In the third I shall likewise report its exceedingly abundant usefulness and the high, inexpressible power and virtue bestowed upon it. In the fourth there will follow a spiritual allegory corresponding in every respect with this whole magistery, which is throughout a faithful image and prefiguration of the true, heavenly, eternal and blessed cornerstone of the Most High. In it the proper golden practical instructions belonging to the work will also be indicated and described as briefly and simply as possible, for I attach no importance to elaborate embellishment.
