To Jupiter.
To Venus.
To Saturn.
To make myself clearer through an example, know that the crown, sceptre, throne, all royal power and majesty, all dominion, riches, treasures, ornaments and display of this world are subject to the planet Sun. All agriculture, navigation, travel and travellers, and related matters, are subject to the Moon. All munitions, as they call them, plates of armour, breastplates, artillery, spears, and every weapon and thing belonging to war are subject to Mars. All learned people, all mechanical instruments and things required for the arts are subject to Mercury. All courts and laws, the whole Levitical order, all ministers of churches, the adornment and treasures of temples and things of this kind are subject to Jupiter. Whatever concerns music, musical instruments, sexual exercises, loves and whoring is subject to Venus. All who work in or below the earth, such as miners, tunnellers, gravediggers and well-diggers, together with all the instruments associated with them, are subject to Saturn.
The signs of pyromancy.
Pyromancy discloses its signs through the stars of fire: in ordinary fire through particular sparks, flames and cracklings; in mines through flashes; in the firmament through stars, comets, lightning, thunderbolts, nostoch and the like; and among apparitions through salamandrine, ethnic and similar spirits appearing in the form of fire.
The signs of hydromancy.
Hydromancy gives its signs through the stars of water: waves, floods, shortages, changes of colour, lorindi, new streams and the washing away of earthly things; in magic and necromancy, through nymphs, visions and supernatural monsters in waters and the sea.
The signs of chaomancy.
Chaomancy displays its signs through the stars of air and wind: through the discolouring, destruction and devastation of tender things and new growths harmed by wind, which shakes off and strips flowers, leaves, foliage and stalks. When the stars of chaomancy move, necrocomicae fall from the upper air and voices and answers are often heard. Trees are torn from the earth with their roots and buildings are thrown down. Lemures, penates, undenae and sylvans are seen. Tereniabin, tronossia and manna also fall upon trees and herbs.
Necromancy discloses its signs through the stars of death, which we also call euestra. They mark the body of a sick and dying person with red, livid and purple spots, certain indications of death arriving on the third day. They also mark human hands and fingers with yellow spots, certain signs of approaching fortune, whether good or bad. When the stars of necromancy move, the dead produce wonders and signs: corpses bleed, dead things are seen, voices are heard from graves, commotions and tremors arise in ossuaries, and the dead appear in the form and dress of the living. They are seen in various forms in visions, mirrors, beryls, stones and waters. The evestrum and trarames give signs by knocking, striking, pounding, falling and throwing, where only commotion or sound is heard but nothing seen. All these are certain indications of death, foretelling it for the one in whose form they appear or in the place where they are heard.
Much more could be recounted about these signs beyond what has already been said. But since they bring with them evil, harmful and dangerous phantasies, imaginations and superstitions which could cause not only misfortune but death, we pass over them in silence. We are forbidden to reveal them, since they belong to the secret school and divine power. Let us therefore now bring this little book to its close.
