The mortification of flints and stones is calcination.
Marcasites.
The mortification of marcasites, cachymiae, talc, cobalt, zinz, garnets, zwitter, wismut and antimony is sublimation: sublime them with salt and vitriol, and their life, the metallic spirit, rises together with the spirit of salt. Wash whatever remains at the bottom of the sublimatory so that its salt dissolves away. You will have dead earth in which no virtue remains.
How realgars are mortified.
The mortification of arsenical substances, auripigment, orpiment, realgar and so forth is to melt them with salt nitre, turn them into oil or liquor on marble, and fix them.
How dung is mortified.
The mortification of undosa is the coagulation of air.
Aromatics and so forth.
The mortification of aromatic things is the removal of their good smell.
Sweet things and so forth.
Sweet things are mortified by being sublimed and distilled with corrosives.
