Ich habe jetzund 10. Pfund Materiæ Catholicæ terræ rubicundæ in 2.

I have now worked ten pounds of the universal matter, a reddish earth, into two parts: salt and spirit. The salt is one and a half pounds, the spirit four pounds, and four pounds of earth remain. I have put this earth into putrefaction with its own spirit, and hope thus to bring the whole earthly substance into the nature of salt. In this anatomy one sees a wonder: a matter so plain and despised can be brought entirely into spirit and salt, and finally into a liquor. My thoughts on this business are three words: “true alchemy and coagulated vapour of earth”; or two words: “fusible salt.” Many work upon this universal matter with differing effects. Everything comes out of the earth in its own time. All classes serve the natural philosopher. Happy the person who knows them all inwardly and outwardly, the lowest and highest root, together with himself. Each vegetable has its sulphur and fire, its spirit and salt; the element water is thrown away. Demonstrating this requires no expense or distillation, provided the philosopher knows how to set about it. God and nature accomplish everything. From this the misery of all Galenic physicians is apparent. I wish from my heart that this matter might be revealed to true lovers of the art, to praise God’s honour and help the poor sick.
