The Concentrated Centre of Nature · Passage 9
English
Attend carefully to what I put before you. Which is more incomprehensible and wonderful: that a better metal, namely ☉, should be made from base metals such as ♄, ♃, ♀, ☽, ♂, and ☿; or that from a single kind of grass, herb, or fruit there should be made milk, blood, flesh, bones, suet or fat, skin, hair, salt, oil, sourness, sweetness, pus, mucus, water, excrement, urine, sand and stones in the kidneys and bladder, together with so many other liquids or juices—and, finally, through human or animal seed that has sprung from grass and herbs, a human being or an animal, without any further intervention? The latter is surely far stranger than the former, because the improvement of lesser metals into nobler ones always remains within one nature and substance, that of metals. Yet bread or grass alone, when eaten, is changed into so many different things through the ⊖ of nature in animals. Here the great secret of nature lies hidden. Whoever understands it can see unhindered into nature’s centre and use it with God’s blessing. But because human growth and the improvement of bread and green grass within animals are so commonplace and known to every farmer, people think little of them and seek only to know something new, even if it is something less significant.
