English
In this matter, antimony, are heaven and earth, as the celestial sphere and terrestrial globe on either side show and indicate. Within it also are the whiteness and redness of sulphur and mercury, as the eagle and lion on the two sides indicate. Indeed, all four elements are in the matter: earth and water are in the earth, fire and air in heaven. All this is bound together within the matter as though by a chain. This matter, antimony, is the sages’ mercury and the water of the Sun and Moon and of all the metals, which must draw and drink their water of life from it. This is shown by the cup above the character of mercury, from which the Sun and Moon grow, with Mars, Venus, Saturn and Jupiter standing at the sides.
