The Last Testament of a Father to His Beloved Son · Passage 2
English
Dearest son, you should know that through God’s grace in Christ, with much prolonged study, reflection, toil and work from the twentieth to the fortieth year of my life, I learned and acquired a knowledge and great hidden secret. For many thousands of years it has been concealed and kept secret among the wisest people in the world; because of its possible misuse, no one can readily disclose it in good conscience except to those who fear God, are upright and devout, and are given to no vices. I never prayed for riches or temporal goods, but only for grace in Christ Jesus, wisdom, understanding, prudence, health, and the eternal salvation and welfare of my soul. I therefore thank the most high God and Lord of heaven and earth, who graciously revealed it to me and deeply gladdened my heart, so that what Christ, our saviour, redeemer and mediator with God his heavenly Father—and, for his sake, ours also—said has proved true in me: seek first the kingdom of God, and all the rest will be added to you.
