The Concentrated Centre of Nature · Passage 42

English

The natural human being now lives from air, water, and earth in two ways: from above and from below. From above, by drawing in breath, one takes as food the spirit or breath of the world-word, or the air of the air; from below, its flesh—animals, plants, and minerals—and blood-water. With its salt the world-spirit or breath refreshes and feeds not only the human spirits themselves; from these also comes the ferment and dissolving power in the stomach and other parts of the body. Through this, all the flesh and blood of the great world are gently dissolved and their ⊖ separated to prepare flesh and blood in the little world, so that the hungry parts may attract and absorb it. But the dregs, husks, and excrements depart again through the head, sweat pores, private member, and backside.

About This Reading Edition

The complete supplied German–English edition of the 1682 collection: the main treatise attributed to Ali Puli, Helbig’s preface, distinct companion discourses, the short potable-gold preparation and the anonymous Father’s Last Testament, with four historical figures, 103 annotations and the full Diotimos study apparatus.

Historical Text and Translation

The governing German witness is the complete 1682 collection in Badische Landesbibliothek Karlsruhe, shelfmark 87 B 76050, with an unnumbered title and printed pages 1–80. The historical title’s Arabic and Portuguese antecedents and its authorial persona are retained as claims, not authenticated originals. Johann Otto Helbig (Hellwig), Martin de Delle, J. J. F. and the anonymous testament retain their distinct historical roles.
