The Concentrated Centre of Nature · Passage 41

English

But just as the devil, through evil imagination, lost the right and power of good imagination in his former kingdom, the present world, so Adam also lost the former power of grace and his natural right through the same evil imagination. God had placed him upon the fallen angel’s throne in a coarser substance, because Lucifer’s fall had given that kingdom a coarser nature. His imagination is now hated and spat out by nature. Nothing remains to the human being except that nature must still sustain spirit and body, together with the ability, through understanding and labour, to improve or worsen particular things in nature.

About This Reading Edition

Historical Text and Translation

The governing German witness is the complete 1682 collection in Badische Landesbibliothek Karlsruhe, shelfmark 87 B 76050, with an unnumbered title and printed pages 1–80. The historical title’s Arabic and Portuguese antecedents and its authorial persona are retained as claims, not authenticated originals. Johann Otto Helbig (Hellwig), Martin de Delle, J. J. F. and the anonymous testament retain their distinct historical roles.
