English
But you must know that every station in life is ordained by God. Your princes must sustain their subjects; if a prince is a true Christian who strives to do the will of his king in heaven, his subjects will follow him in fear of God, humility, and love. Justice will reign. They will be blessed in the city and in the field, blessed when they come in and when they go out. The Lord will strike the enemies who rise against them. Their springs will be in a place with grain and new wine in abundance; their sky will drip with dew and their mountains yield ore in plenty. There will be no need to search for the gold-making philosophers’ stone and burden themselves with so much unrest, expense, and vexatious labour. Congregations owe their preachers food and clothing according to their needs. People are glad to pay lawyers and physicians who discharge their duties properly and honestly. If townspeople, farmers, and craftsmen were to wander quietly about and serve God in idleness, both town and country would be poorly provided for.
