Philosophical Discourse · Passage 10
German
Nullus Philosophorum in publico nomen prodidit.
English
The true universal subject generates, preserves, awakens, and sustains all general things: from this one thing everything has been and is created. None of the philosophers has disclosed its name publicly. Listen, friend: it is a certain salt, or foam of Mars. If you know how, with little labour and without distillation, to prepare from this salt a reddish fusible salt, and with it destroy gold or any metal and ore and reduce it to the substance of salt, you are devoted to philosophy. Seek in lesser things and honour the greater. If you perfect a mineral or metallic salt from the Archaeus in the same way, you are more fortunate. In every kingdom seek a fusible, clarified, translucent, yet fixed salt; thus you will cure yourself and others. If you do not understand this, you will destroy yourself and others.
