English
In all created things we have the upper and lower. The upper is the Spirit of the World in liquid and dry form. Its dry form is the Salt of Nature, or Balsam of Nature; its liquid form is water. If this water is extracted at the exaltation of Leo, at the full moon, it is very cold. From it Cabalistic Mercury congeals of itself, dissolving, coagulating, and fixing itself without material fire, without any expense or labour, through the benefit of natural fire. This fire converts all bodies into first matter. In summer, in the greatest heat, another Cabalistic Mercury is generated: solar and corporeal, destroying trees and towers through lightning—and this lightning is Mercury. Mercury or salt likewise lies hidden in rain-water, May water, and thunderstorm water, more or less in quantity according to the season. I encompass much in few words: there is a hidden food of life in the air, which by night we call dew and by day rarefied water. Its invisible spirit, when congealed, is better than the whole earth. These few words concern the upper; about the lower, fewer still.
