93–94Gleich wie ich aber in meinem Ersten damahls nemblichen besagten 1665sten Jahrs von dem Regenwasser geschriebenen Tractätlein / meine wenige Meynung hiervon kurtz- und ohngefahrlich dahin eröffnet / daß nach deme / mehrangeregter massen / keine Natur sey / die etwas würcket / auch wir in H. Schrifft nicht lesen / daß GOTT der HErr Sternen geschaffen / die biß zu einiger Zeit verborgen seyn / sondern die auff die Erden scheinen sollen / sothane Sternen einig und allein von Gott dem HErrn / wann Er dieselbe auff Erden scheinen lassen / und uns dardurch etwas andeuten will / geschaffen / und nachmahls wieder weg genommen worden;
Candida Phoenix Philosophica: Part II — Chapter 3: Comets and Other Meteors
93–94In my first little treatise on rainwater, written in the year 1665 just mentioned, I briefly and approximately expressed my modest opinion as follows. Since, as repeatedly explained, no nature acts of itself, and since Holy Scripture does not say that the Lord God created stars to remain hidden until some particular time, but rather to shine upon the earth, such stars are created solely by the Lord God when he wishes them to shine upon the earth and signify something to us; afterwards they are removed again.
