LXIV–LXXIX: Principles and the Herculean Works · Grand Elixir · Aphorism LXVI

Original English

LXVI. When the Earth has lost its Soul, the remainder of it is the true Magnet, attracting the Salt of Nature from the combustible Fire after a violent Calcination for several hours: which Salt, after its Purification and Clarification, is call'd the clarify'd Earth or Salt of the Philosophers, which, uniting it self with our single and double Mercury, after their Digestion, is call'd by our Master Hermes the Universal Spirit earthify'd.

Modern English

LXVI. When the earth has lost its soul, what remains of it is the true magnet, attracting the salt of nature from the combustible fire after a violent calcination lasting several hours. After its purification and clarification, this salt is called the clarified earth or salt of the philosophers. When it unites with our single and double mercury, after their digestion, it is called by our master Hermes the universal spirit made earth.
