Aphorismi Urbigerani: Historical Glossary

p. 180

Salt

A principle associated with the prepared earth or bodily foundation, and a fixed vegetable subject in the companion. The author follows it through purification, reception and union with spirit. “Salt” is not silently converted into common table salt or another uniquely specified modern compound. See main 66, vegetable 6, vegetable 12.

Sulphur

A principle linked with soul, metallic essence, internal fire and tincture. The work’s multiple names are relational explanations rather than a licence to substitute ordinary sulphur everywhere. In the vegetable sequence a sulphurous medium strengthens the soul and enables a union of body and spirit. See main 65, vegetable 6, vegetable 7.

Virgin’s Milk

A name for the author’s mercurial or silvery water, later explicitly associated with simple mercury feeding the infant. The image links whiteness, nourishment and a prepared subject. It is not a reference to literal milk, and its interpretation should follow the text’s own local identifications. See main 20, main 44, main 83.
