XI–XXI: Union and the Vegetable Essence · Original

Original English

XVI. It is to be observ'd, that in the Progress of your Destillations the sulphureous Medium do not in the least ascend: for as it is a real Medium, concurring to unite the Body with the Spirit, before the Spiritualization of the Body, and without the Concurrence of which no perfect Union of these two Subjects is to be expected; so on the contrary in the Progress of the Work its Concurrence would be highly disadvantageous to to them both, and totally subvert your Operation.

Modern English

XVI. Observe that, as your distillations proceed, the sulphurous medium does not ascend at all. As a real medium, it helps unite the body with the spirit before the body’s spiritualisation, and without its cooperation no perfect union of these two subjects can be expected. On the contrary, as the work proceeds, its cooperation would be highly disadvantageous to both and would entirely overturn your operation.
