Original English

This Mercury simplex, which before its retrogradation was of a Feminine Nature, and before it left all its own Earth, was Hermaphroditic, being powerful in both Sexes, is now become of a Feminine Quality again, and althô it has lost the Masculine visible Fire, yet it has conserv'd its own, which is invisible to us, and with which it performs visible Operations in digesting of imperfect Metals, after its Determination with any of them.

Modern English

LVIII. This simple mercury, which before its retrogradation was feminine in nature, and before it left all its own earth was hermaphroditic, possessing power in both sexes, has now become feminine in quality again. Although it has lost the visible masculine fire, it has preserved its own fire, which is invisible to us. With this it performs visible operations in digesting imperfect metals, after being determined by any of them.
