I therefore offer these treatises, written from my own experience, to the children of this knowledge. As they devote every thought and movement of mind to investigating nature’s hidden operations, may they discern and know from them the truth of things and nature herself. In this alone lies the perfection of the entire most sacred philosophical art, provided that they advance along the royal road nature prescribes in all her operations. I would therefore caution the honest reader to understand my writings through nature’s powers more than through the outer bark of words, so that there may be no later lament over time, labour and money spent in vain.
