At a Glance

The word. A variant-name entry identifying stibium or antimony.

Historical Definition

Alcofol, or, as some would have it, Alcosol, is stibium or antimony.

Meaning

The historical entry preserves disagreement about the spelling as well as an identification. Both Alcofol and Alcosol should therefore remain findable. Their resemblance to Alcol or Alcohol must not cause the entries to be merged: the latter is defined here as a fine powder of anything. This one names a particular material through the linked terms stibium and antimony. The distinction is lexical evidence supplied by the dictionary itself.

Places to Read

Stibium. A historical name equated with antimony.

Alcol. A term for extreme fineness of powder, not necessarily a liquid.
